New to the Offenbach district – and right in the middle of it!

Some places take a while to feel like home. In the Offenbach district, that can happen surprisingly quickly. Move here and you will find yourself at the heart of the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region – yet surrounded by an unexpected amount of green space, lively towns and places where centuries of history are still part of everyday life.

A good place to start exploring is the Langener Waldsee on a summer’s day. With sand beneath your feet and the lake stretching out in front of you, it is easy to see why generations have come here to swim and unwind. And at the LaWa Beachclub, the day can last a little longer. Find a spot by the water, order a drink – and suddenly an ordinary evening after work feels a lot like being on holiday.

Neu-Isenburg shows a very different side of the district. During the Open Doors Festival, the city turns into one big stage. Music spills out into streets and squares as concerts bring people together in all kinds of venues. For one weekend, everyday places become part of a festival that has built a reputation well beyond Neu-Isenburg.

Venture a little further and you will soon discover how naturally the present and the past exist side by side. Seligenstadt is perhaps the finest example. Its former Benedictine abbey and monastery garden anchor the historic town center. Just a few steps away, narrow streets lead towards the market square and its half-timbered houses. This is the kind of place where it is worth putting away the map and simply seeing where the streets take you.

Dreieichenhain also wears its history lightly. The medieval character of the old town is still very much alive around Burg Hayn. Every summer, this remarkable setting takes on a new role when the Burgfestspiele festival transforms the castle grounds into an open-air venue for theatre and music.

And these are only a few ways to discover the 13 towns and municipalities that make up the Offenbach district. Frankfurt is just next door, but there is no need to travel far to take a break from city life. Lakes and woodland are often closer than you might expect, while historic town centres offer plenty of reasons to stop and explore.

If you are new to the Offenbach district, there is no need to discover everything at once. Start just outside your own front door. The rest will come naturally – and little by little, a new place to live will beginn to feel like home.
